Bras for the Cause is one type of fundraiser to help end cancer.
Breast and cervical cancers are among the 10 deadliest cancers in America. Bras for the Cause is a nonprofit organization founded to help put an end to these cancers. The concept is simple: Bras are fancifully decorated and then auctioned off to raise funds to fight against these cancers.
History
This 501(c) (3) corporation was founded in 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa, to raise funds for breast and cervical cancer. The organization hosts and supports many fundraising activities, but its main fundraising event is an annual gala. The organization uses the funds raised mainly to award grants, sponsor additional events and raise awareness.
Get Involved
You can get involved in Iowa's Bras for the Cause by volunteering to work at fundraising events, decorating a bra to be auctioned, or in other ways. You can contact the organization or visit its website to learn more about ways you can help.
Similiar Programs
There are similar Bras for the Cause programs across the nation. In fact, the Iowa organization was started after a woman got the idea after seeing decorated bras in a Colorado hotel. The bra events include both local and national fundraising, with funds going to different organizations with the same mission: to support research and find a cure for breast cancer. Some programs also fund the cost of cancer screenings.
