The pink ribbon symbolizes breast cancer awareness.
Breast cancer awareness and research for a breast cancer cure have become hot topics in recent years. This is due, in part, to the efforts of organizations that focus on breast cancer. Every October, fundraisers, pink ribbons and consumer products with pink labels become commonplace as the world observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month. However, individuals and businesses can aid breast cancer research at any time, even if they're not directly involved with research organizations, through monetary donations.
Instructions
1. Research any organization before donating money. You'll want to be able to identify how much money goes toward research, versus administration or PR costs. Organizations such as Breast Cancer Action and Komen for the Cure show these numbers on their official websites. If you can't find this information either on the website, or in other promotional materials, consider donating to an organization that does share it.
2. Donate directly to an organization by logging onto its website and clicking the link to "Donate", or become involved. The website will prompt you for personal information and the amount that you wish to donate. If you're uncomfortable donating online, most organizations provide a physical address where you can mail a check or money order.
3. Purchase consumer goods with pink labels and ribbons. Big box retailers, department stores and online retailers offer a variety of goods. Some of your preferred brands and products may participate in this promotion.
4. Participate in fundraising events such as "Race for the Cure," or "Art for the Cure." These events require participants to raise money in order to participate, and these funds are matched by sponsors of the event.
