Medical imaging machine
Ultrasound technicians are referred to as sonographers and go through medical imaging training in order to properly conduct diagnostic procedures on patients. A sonographer uses medical imaging equipment to provide physicians with images of the patient's body so that a diagnosis can be reached if there are any medical concerns. Illinois has a few programs for sonography and medical imaging that will provide you with the necessary training to become an ultrasound technician.
College of Dupage
The College of Dupage offers a sonography program with three different specialties and is the first in Illinois to do so. The Associate of Applied Science degree is in diagnostic medical imaging sonography and consists of training in obstetrics and gynecology, vascular imaging and the abdominal and superficial structures. In addition to the associate degree program, this school also offers certificates in both diagnostic medical imaging sonography as well as diagnostic medical imaging vascular sonography. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health education Programs recommended by the Joint Review Committee on Education of Medical Sonographers. Clinical rotations through alternate education centers may be a requirement in order to obtain the competency goal.
