Grants For Nonprofits In Florida

Several grants are available to Florida nonprofit organizations.

In a declining economy, nonprofit organizations, or 501(c)(3)s, can take a hard hit. In 2010, only 18 percent of nonprofit organizations nationwide expect to break even. However, according to a 2002 report by Rollins College, Florida's nonprofits create "significant economic benefits for state residents," including providing jobs for 430,000 people and generating more than $61 billion in economic activity. Luckily, several government and foundation grants are available to Florida nonprofits.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration offers grants to Florida nonprofits through the "Understanding Coral Ecosystem Connectivity in the Gulf of Mexico-Pulley Ridge to the Florida Keys" program. The grant supports projects that include "research to improve the understanding of population connectivity of key species between the southernmost portion of Pulley Ridge on the West Florida continental shelf, and downstream to the coral ecosystems of the Florida Keys," according to grant guidelines. Grants range up to $1 million over a five-year period. Nonprofit organizations including institutions of higher education, government agencies and tribal governments are eligible to apply.
