Radiologists study medical imaging in fellowship programs.
Training for doctors does not end when they graduate from medical school. After an internship following the first year after medical school, doctors begin training in their specialty during a fellowship. Physicians who are interested in radiology, the study of medical images, can apply to fellowship programs at medical centers all over the country. Applications for the majority of programs are managed through the National Resident Matching Program.
Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard University Medical School
Brigham and Women's Hospital Radiology Residency Program trains residents at the affiliate hospital of Harvard Medical School, the 2010 U.S. News & World Report No.1-ranked research medical school. Students rotate through radiology subspecialties over the course of the four-year program. Three training tracks are available: direct intervention, pediatric radiology and research. There are 120 technologists and more than15 nurses on the radiology support staff. Fellows can also take post-graduate specialty courses at Harvard Medical School.

The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center Radiology Residency Program is the top recipient of research funds for radiology from the National Institutes of Health. The faculty is world-renowned in radiology innovation, including pioneers of pediatric radiology. In 2009, Penn opened a state-of-the-art radiology facility which has the largest and most advance proton-beam therapy facility in the world. Physicians can apply for fellowships in eight areas: abdominal imaging, cardiothoracic imaging, cardiovascular imaging, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine and women's imaging. Fellows can further concentrate in subspecialties in each area and participate in continuing education opportunities at Penn's medical school, ranked second on the 2010 U.S. News & World Report lists of the top research medical schools.

University of California, San Francisco Diagnostic Radiology Fellowship Program
The University of California, San Francisco Diagnostic Radiology Fellowship Program offers two radiology options for physicians. One program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is for physicians who participated in the National Resident Matching Program process. ACGME Fellows specialty tracks include neuroradiology, pediatric radiology or vascular interventional. Non-ACGME fellows are experienced doctors who are interested in learning new specialties. They can choose from: abdominal imaging, cardiac & pulmonary imaging, interventional neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, ultrasound and women's imaging.
