Keep Hair Healthy

Keeping your hair is not difficult if you use common sense and treat it the way you would sensitive skin. Regular conditioning and trimming the hair makes a significant difference. Read on to learn keep hair healthy. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine for yourself if you have dry or oily hair, or a combination of both. If you have dry hair, select organic shampoos that are moisturizing, such as those made with lavender oil, jojoba, or vitamins A and E. If you have oily hair, choose a more astringent shampoo made with tea tree oil or citrus of any kind such as orange or lemon.

2. Daily shampooing is appropriate if you have oily hair or if you exercise and the scalp and hair become damp, or if you live in a very warm climate. Condition your hair each time you wash your hair. If you have dry hair, a "thickening" or moisturizing formula is appropriate. If you have oily hair, again, a more astringent formula with ingredients that remove "hair buildup" from previous applications of mousse, hair gel or hair sprays.

3. Dry your hair by gently squeezing out the excess water from the damp hair. Do not rub your wet hair together vigorously or use a brush of any kind on wet hair. Instead, for straight hair, use a wide-toothed comb. Damp curly hair can be "finger-fluffed."

4. Air dry your hair if at all possible. Apply a leave-in conditioner that has vitamins such as A, C and E to protect your hair and act as a kind of sunscreen. If you must use a hair dryer, select a ceramic hair dryer or use any kind at the lowest setting. If you can select a non-heating option that simply blows cool air, all the better. Blow dry hair only until damp.

5. Visit your hairdresser or barber at least every three months to get a proper conditioning treatment (and a scalp massage, if possible) and trim to eliminate any split ends. In dry weather, extreme heat or sun, cover your hair with a hat, cap or scarf. The sun does bleach and dry the hair and sun damage results in a faded appearance and very dry, brittle hair.
