Grants For Recreation Facilities

Recreational facilities provide exercise programs and other recreational activities to communities.

Communities need access to recreational facilities in order to improve the overall health of residents and to provide places for children to participate in recreational activities. Grants for recreational facilities are generally funded by governmental bodies, both state and federal, to fund projects.

Community Facility Grants

Community Facility Grants, administered by the United States Department of Agriculture, are given to rural communities with populations of 20,000 residents or fewer. Smaller communities with lower income levels will receive a higher percentage of the grants. Eligible applicants include local governmental bodies, nonprofit organizations and tribal governments. Eligible activities include new construction, improvements of existing facilities or the expansion of facilities, and eligible facilities include those that will be used for health care, the community and safety. Equipment may also be purchased using grant funds. Grant amounts will depend upon the median household income for the area and the total population where the facility will be located.

Washington Youth Recreational Facilities Program

The Youth Recreational Facilities Program, administered by the State of Washington Department of Commerce, is a matching funds grant to assist with the capital costs associated with the construction of new facilities or improvements to current facilities. Nonprofit organizations may receive up to 25 percent of the capital costs, and these funds must be used for recreational facilities for community youth. These facilities must not be located in residential areas. This grant is given out every two years, and winning applicants receive reimbursements for money spent. Grant funds may not be used for operating costs.

Texas Recreation Grant Programs

The Recreation Grant Programs, administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is broken down into four major programs: Outdoor Recreation, Small Community, Indoor Recreation Facility Grants and Community Outdoor Outreach Program. The Outdoor Recreation program is a 50 percent matching grant program given to local governments to obtain land or improve current facilities. The Indoor Recreation Facility Grants is also a 50 percent matching grant program given to local governments to create recreational facilities, nature centers and the like. Both of these grants require those areas to have less than 500,000 residents. The Small Community Grants go to areas with 20,000 residents or less, and this is a 50 percent matching grant that can be used for recreational facilities. The Community Outdoor Outreach Program seeks to provide services and programs to underserved communities, and these grants go to nonprofit organizations, local governments and schools.
