Get a Job at a Radio Station
Opportunities for work at broadcast radio stations abound in today's market. With a dozen or more stations in even small regional markets, a little knowledge and a lot of hard work and enthusiasm can get your foot in the door. With Internet radio stations and radio blog networks, it's easier than ever to get experience and then move on to terrestrial broadcast markets.
Instructions
1. Study radio broadcasting at a trade school or university. College broadcasting departments post special workshops, events and seminars offered by radio stations and personalities. Take advantage of all the courses you can and network with teachers and other students to learn about radio station job openings.
2. Host your own podcast. Whether you produce your own talk show, read poetry or play independent music, a daily or weekly podcast will showcase your skills and get your name out to broadcasters and the public. If you're good enough, a radio station may offer you a job.
3. Search online job banks. Check radio station website employment pages on a regular basis so you can apply for positions as soon as they become available. Occasionally, general job sites feature radio station opportunities.
4. Intern at a radio station. All broadcast radio stations have openings for interns to run errands, set up interviews with guests and help with show production. Interns usually gain paid positions at a radio station after they finish school.
5. Network with staff at your favorite radio station. Attend station functions and join their street team. Once they notice your enthusiasm and work habits, they may hire you for a paid position.
