College


Sacramento, California, has many different college options for students who are ready to pursue a degree at a higher education institution. Recent high school graduates who are looking to begin a post-secondary education, adult learners wishing to return to school, and career-minded professionals in need of skill advancement will all find a variety of choices from traditional campus-style training to online and distance education.


Sacramento City College


Sacramento City College is a local community college with campuses in Sacramento, Davis, and West Sacramento. This institution carries accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and offers students a number of different programs and courses of study in both degree (associate or certificate) and non-degree areas. Programs include general education, career-technical, developmental and basic skills, distance education and transfer education for students wishing to transfer to a four-year college. Specific fields of study form ten divisions that range from business to language and literature. High school students in 11th and 12th grades may enroll in special enrichment classes through the college.

Sacramento State


Sacramento State is located on a 300-acre campus in the city of Sacramento. With nearly 28,000 students enrolled each year, this school is the seventh largest of the 23 campuses in the California State University system. Established in 1947, Sacramento State has 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs of study. These include areas such as business, nursing, engineering, and education. Each division offers a number of different majors such as child development, counseling, photography, music, chemistry and biological sciences. Students have access to free light rail and bus service when traveling in the Sacramento area, low-cost prescriptions and basic medical care at the school's health center, and child care for dependant children ages 6 months through 8 years at the Children's Center. Those students who wish to live on campus may reside in one of the five coeducational residence halls.

MTI College


MTI College offers a variety of technical and vocational programs for students in Sacramento. According to the school, 96 percent of students in 2008 found jobs following completion of a degree program. Available programs include associate's degrees and diplomas in accounting, business, health care, law, cosmetology and technology. Admission requirements vary depending on program of study. All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Current students and graduates have access to many career services through MTI, including lifetime placement assistance, on-campus job fairs and resume and interviewing assistance.
