Online Cardiovascular Interventional Technology Schools

Learn about EKGs, angiography, venography and more through self-guided studies.

Cardiovascular interventional technology is a specialty of the diagnostic imaging sciences. Graduates of radiologic technology or sonography programs generally apply to this specialty after obtaining relevant work experience. The online programs in cardiovascular intervention technology offer self-guided courses in pathophysiology, angiography, venography, echocardiography and more. Many programs offer externship opportunities to unite academic learning with practical hands-on experience.

Fort Hays State University

Fort Hays State University offers a certificate program in cardiovascular interventional technology through online learning. The program requires nine credit hours of academic learning and an eight-credit-hour summer preceptorship. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for a career in a hospital or clinic setting through courses in advanced cardiovascular interventional technology, advanced patient care, and cardiovascular interventional technology pathology and case reviews. The program provides a broader knowledge base for a diagnostic technologist while completing necessary continuing education obligations. Credits earned through this program may later be applied toward the Bachelor of Science in Medical Diagnostic Imaging. Applicants must be certified for practice as diagnostic technologists.

University of Iowa

The courses in the cardiovascular interventional technology certificate program at the University of Iowa are offered entirely through distance education. The curriculum prepares students to write the cardiac-interventional radiography examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Courses in the program include vascular anatomy, cardiovascular intervention (CVI) principles, electrocardiograms, and CVI procedures and pathology. Students become familiar with the techniques involved in angiography, venography, vascular intervention procedures and more. The curriculum is applicable toward continuing education requirements. Furthermore, credits earned in the certificate program may be applied toward the university's radiation sciences degree. Prospective students should be registered diagnostic technologists with relevant work experience in the field.

Sanford-Brown College

The cardiovascular technology certificate program at Sanford-Brown College in Cleveland, Ohio, prepares students to conduct noninvasive diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. The program combines distance learning courses, an imaging laboratory and practical experience through a supervised externship to provide students with a comprehensive academic curriculum. Students learn about pathophysiology, infarction EKG pattern and arrhythmia recognition, echocardiography and emergency protocols. Program applicants must have a high school diploma as well as an academic background in diagnostic imaging and related work experience. In addition to application submission, prospective students interview with an admissions representative.
