Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) offers a more traditional bachelor of science in the field of radiology technology. Students must complete 76 credit hours in the field of radiological technology in addition to the school's 55 credit hours in general education requirements. Areas of study required by the school's radiological science program include radiographic procedures, principles of radiographic exposure, film critique, the fundamentals of patient care, imaging equipment, pathology, ethics and law in diagnostic imaging, clinical-based lab education, fundamentals of health care management and radiation biology and advanced safety procedures.

Southern Illinois University
Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, Illinois, offers a third possibility for a degree in radiological science. SIU offers a bachelor of science degree in the field with one of three possible areas of specialization. Students choose from specializations in medical sonography, radiation therapy and magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. In addition to these bachelor's degree fields, SIU also offers a master's degree in medical dosimetry (someone who treats diagnosed medical problems with the prescribed amount of radiation). Students who take the medical dosimetry program must complete 30 credit hours in the field while completing an extensive clinical training program. The program takes approximately one year to complete; students accumulate 2,000 hours of classroom and clinical training during the program. This intensive program requires approximately 40 hours per week of classroom and clinical study for approximately 50 weeks out of the year.
