Learn The Dictaphone

Dictaphones are often used in legal and medical professions.

Dictaphones are devices used for the recording and playback of vocal information. They are commonly used in the medical field to record important information about a patient or the details of a medicinal study. Lawyers and others in the legal profession may also use dictaphones to capture testimonies or statements regarding a case. The machines are available in both analog and digital formats. Because of their mechanical reliability and lower price, analog machines are still widely used.

Instructions

1. Ensure that the dictaphone is attached to a wall socket or other power source.

2. Plug the microphone into the appropriate socket on the right side of the device. Depending on your model, the socket may be located on the back panel of the device.

3. Switch the speaker button to the "On" position. This button is located near the microphone socket on the device and is usually labeled as such.

4. Press the "Eject" button on the face of the dictaphone. This opens the tape deck and allows for insertion of a blank cassette tape. If you wish to begin recording on a fresh tape, insert it now. Close the tape deck lid.

5. Push the "On" button on the face of the dictaphone. This button, along with other mode buttons, is located just beneath the tape deck on most models.

6. Press the "Conf. Rec" button on the face of the dictaphone. This allows for conference recording in hands-free mode.

7. Plug the foot pedal into the socket on the left side of the device. Depending on your model, the socket may be located on the back panel of the device.

8. Begin recording by pressing down in the center of the pedal with your foot. Stop recording by lifting your foot from the pedal.

9. Rewind the tape by pressing down on the right side of the pedal with your foot. Fast-forward the tape by pressing down the left side of the pedal.

10. Stop vocal playback by lightly tapping the center of the foot pedal.

11. Control playback volume using the sliding knobs on the face of the dictaphone.
