Non Profit Organizations That Help Children

Children's charities provide for the needs of kids throughout the world.

While many non-profit organizations help people of all ages, children's charities exist to provide for the needs of children and advocate on their behalf. They may offer literacy, medical and/or nutritional assistance as well as help parents and families. They can also provide for children's emotional and psychological needs during times of crisis by helping them enjoy their childhood.

Children's Miracle Network

The Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit organization with the goal of improving and saving the lives of children needing medical care and treatment. The believe that all children deserve to receive the medical attention they need regardless of cost. They provide support to over 170 children's hospitals in their network by raising money for life-saving equipment, medical research and education, and outreach programs. These hospitals provide medical care for children of all ages and backgrounds and treat a variety of conditions including cancer, pediatric AIDS, asthma and broken bones. Marie Osmond, Mick Shannon, John Schneider and Joe Lake founded the children's charity in 1983.

Save the Children

Save the Children is a global non-profit organization that helps children in the United States as well as in 120 other countries. The charity was founded in England by Eglantyne Jebb, a teacher and sociologist, to help meet the needs of children in Central Europe during the war. They currently provide disaster relief for children and their families including medical care, food and education. They also help children with everyday struggles such as disease, hunger and poverty. Save the Children partners with other non-profit organizations and governments to help communities rebuild after natural disasters strike as well as provide for basic needs.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and injuries. The organization was founded in 1980 in memory of Chris Greicius, a 7-year-old leukemia patient. His wish was to grow up to be a police officer and before he passed away, members of the Arizona Department of Public Safety treated him to a special day. The Make-A-Wish Foundation learns about potential recipients meeting the eligibility requirements through referrals from parents and doctors. Volunteers meet with the children to learn of their true wishes and volunteers from the children's charity create an experience to uplift and bring them joy.
