A number of schools in Florida offer programs in ultrasound technology, a field that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts will grow by 18 percent between 2008 and 2018. The following Florida schools carry the approval of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and offer certificate, associate and bachelor's degree programs in the field.
Keiser University
Keiser University is a private college with locations throughout Florida. The school offers associate of science degree programs in diagnostic medical sonography and vascular sonography at its Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach branches. To enroll in the program, students must have a high school diploma or GED and pass a physical examination. In addition to classroom and laboratory courses in ultrasound technology, program coursework includes psychology, English composition, computer and natural sciences, algebra and literature. Day and evening classes are available, and some courses are offered online. In order to graduate, students must complete six clinical rotations in area medical facilities. The school also participates in federal financial aid programs and offers institutional scholarships.

Broward College
Located in Coconut Creek, Broward College is a public school that's just 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale. The school offers an accelerated certificate program in diagnostic ultrasound for individuals who already hold an associate degree in radiology or radiography, as well as an associate of applied science degree program. The certificate program requires approximately 13 to 14 months of full-time study, while the associate degree requires 24 months of study. In the associate degree program, students take classes in echocardiology, neurosonography and abdominal, obstetric and gynecological sonography. Six clinical rotations are also required. In addition to federal loans and grants, the college also offers work-study programs. The career center at the school helps graduates write resumes, prepare for interviews and research job opportunities. Low cost childcare is also available on campus.

Palm Beach State College
Palm Beach State College is a public community college in Palm Beach Garden. The college offers a certificate program in sonography for students who already have an associate degree in an allied health field, such as radiology or respiratory therapy, or for those who have a bachelor's degree in any field with coursework in mathematics and science. The program takes approximately one year to complete, and covers abdominal, obstetric, gynecological and circulatory sonography. Three clinical rotations are also part of the curriculum. A two-year associate degree program is also available, and includes coursework in biology, anatomy, algebra, physics and psychology. Federal and state loans, grants and work-study programs are available for qualified students. The school also provides personal and career counseling and job placement assistance.
