Education

The core curriculum within a radiologic technology program includes courses in anatomy and physiology, patient imaging, medical terminology, patient positioning and radiation protection.
Training
Radiologic technology programs also require that students receive hands-on training at a local imaging facility. This is an opportunity for students to learn and observe under the supervision of a certified radiologic technologist. Initially, students are able to perform low-level duties, such as transporting patients and maintaining patient records. Certification
Certification is available through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In order to become certified, applicants must graduate from an accredited program and pass an examination. The examination ensures that candidates understand the procedures, safety practices and protocols in radiologic technology. To remain certified, radiologic technologists must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.
