The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is a residential high school for sophomores, juniors and seniors. The school's focus is on science, mathematics and technology, and the school is equipped for 300 enrolled students each year. All classes are taught at the Advanced Placement or Honors level. Various athletic programs are offered to the students as well. ASMS is a public school and is open to all Alabama high school students to apply.

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics was established in 1980 and is the model for which 18 similar math, science and technology schools around the world have been based, according to its website. At the school, students study a specialized curriculum that focuses heavily on science, mathematics and technology. The goal of the school is to produce leaders in these fields. All of the employed faculty hold master's degrees or higher. The average class size is 20 students, and the school has a competitive athletic program that offers sports such as basketball, volleyball and flag football.
Applications are accepted from any 10th-graders whose parents are permanent North Carolina residents as of December of that 10th-grade school year.

Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science
The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science emphasizes the learning of science, mathematics and technology. It is the only school of its kind in Mississippi. The school itself is located on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women (MUW). All students are required to live on grounds, but in separate residence halls from the college students of MUW. On top of the regular curriculum all students are required to participate in daily physical activity.
MSMS is supported by the state and in turn charges no tuition. However, there is a small fee used strictly for room and board. The school is open to applications from all qualified Mississippi 10th-grade students with an interest in the areas of math, science and technology.
