"X-Men: The Last Stand," directed by Brett Ratner, was released in 2006. The film draws on the rich mythology of the Marvel Comics universe, climaxing in a clash between rival armies of super-powered mutants. With all the combatants involved in the confrontation, a list of characters can help you keep track of the action.
The X-Men
The X-Men are a team of mutant superheroes based at the Xavier Academy. Their leader, professor Charles Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart) is a powerful telepath and an expert on mutants. Cyclops (James Marsden) leads the team in the field and can emit energy beams from his eyes. Other X-Men include Storm (Halle Berry), who can control weather, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), whose mutant power is the ability to heal rapidly. and Rogue (Anna Paquin), who can absorb the powers of others. Joining these veteran X-Men are new members Iceman (Shawn Ashford), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Colossus (Daniel Cudmore), Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Angel (Ben Foster).
Brotherhood of Mutants
Opposing Professor Xavier is Eric Lehnsherr, known as Magneto (Ian McKellen). Magneto believes that mutants must be willing to use violence to protect themselves from humans. Working with Magneto are Phoenix (Famke Janssen), a former member of the X-Men, and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), a shapeshifter who can mimic the appearance of others. Other members of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants include Pyro (Aaron Stanford), who can control flame, Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones), whose charge is unstoppable, and the Multiple Man (Eric Dane), who can duplicate himself.
Omegas and Other Mutants
This third group of mutants are initially allied with neither side but align themselves with Magneto in response to the threat of a mutant cure. Their leader is Callisto (Dania Ramirez). Other members include Arclight (Omahyra Mota), Psylocke (Meiling Melancon) and Kid Omega (Ken Leung).
In addition to these three factions, a number of other students at Xavier's school appear, including Jubilee (Kea Wong) and Siryn (Theresa Rourke Cassidy). Another young mutant, Leech (Cameron Bright) is captured to provide the basis for the mutant cure.
Other Characters
Along with the mutants, a number of other characters appear in the film. Warren Worthington II (Michael Murphy) is Angel's concerned father. He employs Dr. Kavita Rao (Shohreh Aghdashloo), inventor of the mutant cure. Olivia Williams plays Dr. Moira MacTaggert, a colleague of Professor Xavier's. Even Stan Lee, co-creator of the X-Men, appears in a small role as a neighbor of the Gray family along with former X-Men writer Chris Claremont.
