Arclight is portrayed by supermodel Omahyra Mota in "X-Men: The Last Stand."
"X-Men: The Last Stand," the third film in the "X-Men" film franchise, introduced multiple new mutants as members of Magneto's army. One was a woman who could create shock waves with her hands. Although the character had no dialogue, she is based on a character from the X-Men comics named Arclight who does speak.
Movie Role
Arclight is a member of the Omega Mutant gang at the beginning of the film. Arclight, with her fellow gang members, eventually joins with Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants in an attack on a medical facility producing a cure for mutant powers. During the attack, Arclight used her powers to stop a swarm of police officers. Arclight is killed during the climax of the movie by the telekinetic powers of Phoenix.
Comics Role
Arclight's alter ego is Phillipa Sontag, a member of the mutant assassination squad the Marauders. Arclight participated in a mass killing of the Morlocks, an underground tribe of mutants. Arclight briefly died but was resurrected as a clone by Mr. Sinister, the leader of the Marauders. Arclight also briefly served as a member of both the Femizons, a group of female villains, and the 198, a group of mutant refugees.
Film Changes
In the comics, Arclight must make contact with her arm or foot to create a wave. In the movie, Arclight can do it by clapping her hands together. She has enough control over her powers that she can direct a tremor at a specific target. In the comics, she can only create earthquakes and tremors. The comic Arclight also has enhanced durability and enough strength to lift 50 tons. Neither gift was apparent in the movie.
Alternate Versions
The alterations to the character of Arclight in "X-Men: The Last Stand" are minor compared to other interpretations of the character. The Arclight in the animated series "Wolverine and the X-Men" had powers similar to the movie version. A male version of Arclight appeared in an alternate universe comic storyline called "Age of Apocalypse." In this storyline, Arclight is a member of the Brotherhood, not the Marauders.
