Alternative Treatments For Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus is a common disease and a difficult disease to get rid of. Although there are prescription treatments for this unsightly condition, toenail fungus can be treated using over-the-counter and natural remedies. Treatments and their success rates vary with each individual. Some treatments take a number of months up to a year to produce results. Use of daily applications is the preferred method for combating toenail fungus with alternative treatments.

Over-the-Counter Fungus Medicines

Miranel, Fungoid Tincture, Zetaclear, Fungisil and Native Rx are fungal treatments available over the counter.

Natural Remedies for Toenail Fungus

Tea tree oil, Vicks VapoRub and T-Fal shampoo can be used on toenail fungus. Apply daily.

Low-Cost Toenail Fungus Remedies

Hydrogen peroxide can be applied directly to the nail; let air-dry. Soak feet in white or apple cider vinegar for 30 minutes at a minimum, or spray vinegar directly on toenails and let air-dry.

Herbal Remedies

Use a blend of two drops each of oregano essential oil and olive oil. Apply on infected toenails for a maximum of three weeks. Oregano essential oil is used for its antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Keep Toenail Fungus From Forming

Toenail fungus prefers moist environments. Dry toes thoroughly after showering, wear sandals or go barefoot to air out feet.
