Ce Audit Certification Self Checklist

CE credits are important in nursing because of new innovations in healthcare.

Continuing Education (CE) is a vital part of work life for people in a number of fields, including nursing, teaching and financial planning. Getting CE credits to count requires close attention to offerings in your area, the dates of the courses, and the procedures necessary to certify these credits.

Number of Credits

Each certifying board will have a number of CE credits they require. This number varies by state and may even be different for different certification levels within an industry. Social workers in Ohio, for instance, need to earn 30 CE credits each time their certificate is up for renewal.

Tracking Credits

Each licensing board should have a way to track your credits. In some cases, the person or school offering the continuing education credit sends your information to the licensing board. For other credits, you may need documentation to prove your completion. Find out this process before signing up for a program advertising CE credits.

Finding Credits

Many licensing boards will list opportunities on their websites or in industry journals for CE credits. Some companies offering these seminars or courses will send in fliers to various employers. If you work at a small doctor's office, you may want to check at a large hospital nearby, for instance. The human resources departments at these locations often know about credits.

Renewing Certificate

The final piece of getting your CE credits is to make sure you apply for your certification renewal in a timely manner. Your license should have a renewal date on it. If not, then the licensing board will have a record of such information. Make sure to have your credits earned and certified in plenty of time to submit them for your certification renewal.
