Use Progest

Progest will be prescribed to you by your doctor if she feels that you have a severe imbalance of the amount of progesterone in your body. There are several forms of this drug, and your dosage and administration method will be based upon your specific needs. Be sure to talk to your doctor about taking Progest, and address any questions you have to him. Progesterone supplements such as Progest might only be taken for a few days at a time to supplement the natural progesterone made by your body during your menstrual cycle. (See Resource.)

Instructions

Use Progest Intramuscular (Injections)

1. Read the information provided to you by your doctor about what days during your cycle you need to take Progest.

2. Clean an injection site that is over a large muscle with rubbing alcohol. Your doctor or a nurse will likely give you the first few injected doses of Progest, but after that, you might be able to administer it at home. (See Reference 1.)

3. Examine the Progest liquid for any impurities before injecting it. If you see any, set aside the dose and take another. Inform your doctor of the tainted dose. (See Reference 1.)

4. Fill a syringe with the entire contents of the dosage bottle. This step is not needed if your Progest injection doses are given in preloaded syringes. (See Reference 1.)

5. Inject the Progest into a large muscle through the skin you cleaned with the alcohol. Change this injection site every day so that you are not putting the medicine into the same muscle daily. Repeat Steps 2 to 5 as directed by your doctor for six to eight days. (See Reference 1.)

Use Progest Cream

6. Measure out about 1/4 tsp. of Progest cream. (See Reference 2.)

7. Rub the cream into your skin until it is absorbed. Choose one of the following sites: chest, inner arms, stomach, or inner thighs. Change this location regularly. (See Reference 2.)

8. Apply twice a day during the last two weeks of your menstrual cycle. When you start bleeding, count 14 days, then use 1/4 tsp. Progest twice every day for one full week. The following week, increase the amount of Progest used to 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. twice a day. When you start bleeding again, stop using Progest cream. (See Reference 2.)

9. Repeat Steps 1 to 3 monthly. (See Reference 2.)

Use Progest Pill

10. Take one Progest 50 pill with a full glass of water in the morning, starting on day 15 of your cycle. This will be about one week after you have stopped bleeding during your menstrual cycle. (See Reference 3.)

11. Take a second pill of Progest 50 in the evening. (See Reference 3.)

12. Repeat Steps 1 to 2 daily until you begin to bleed again. This signals that you have restarted your cycle at day 1 and you need to stop taking Progest. (See Reference 3.)
