Crime Scene Technician Programs

Help catch the bad guys as a crime scene technician.


Many colleges offer programs in forensic science, and some specialize in education and training for specific fields within the industry. Crime scene technicians assist in law enforcement cases, collecting, analyzing and interpreting physical evidence. While available technology is not quite be on par with depictions on television and the movies, it is changing rapidly and a good education can help students keep up to date.


Illinois Central College


Illinois Central College provides classroom and lab instruction for students seeking an Associate of Applied Science degree in crime scene technology. Also offered is a professional certificate program for students already with an associate's or bachelor's degree in related fields now seeking to become crime scene technicians. Prerequisites are required for many of the courses. The school advises consulting with a career counselor to plan a comprehensive career path.

Carnegie Institute


The Carnegie Institute of Integrative Medicine has the approval of the American Academy of Forensic Science to offer an administration associate degree. Graduates are qualified to sit for an American College of Forensic Science (ACFS) designation as Certified Medical Investigator-II. Students gaining ACFS certification can qualify for Certified Medical Investigator-III designation after five years of employment in the forensic science field.

St. Petersburg College combines a curriculum of established crime scene investigative techniques and present-day technology to keep students current in the evolving methods of forensic science. The college offers a two-year Associate of Science degree for crime scene technology and a one-year professional certificate program for qualified students seeking specific crime scene technology training. Graduates are qualified to work as crime scene technicians, evidence custodians and crime scene investigators, among other positions in the criminal justice field.
