Mobile, Alabama, is located on the Gulf Coast near the Alabama-Mississippi border. The largest city in that part of the state, Mobile contains multiple colleges and universities, ranging from state universities to private colleges to institutions that offer online classes.
University of Mobile
The University of Mobile is 10 minutes north of historic downtown Mobile and has a campus of more than 800 acres. The school has more than 40 areas of study, including accounting, biology, business administration, art, marine science and musical theater. UM has a student-to-faculty ratio of 14-to-1 with a student population of approximately 1,650, as of February 2011. University of Mobile was chartered in 1961 as Mobile College but changed its name in 1993. The university is a Baptist-affiliated institution.
Spring Hill College
Spring Hill College lays claim to being the fifth oldest Catholic college in the United States and the oldest Catholic college in the Southeast. This college accepts students from all religious affiliations, and maintains a student population of approximately 1,500, as of February 2011. The Spring Hill College campus consists of 381 acres and is naturally landscaped. The institution also has an 18-hole golf course. Around 80 percent of traditional students live on campus. The student-to-faculty ratio is 12-to-1. Spring Hill College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Programs at the college include social sciences, sciences, nursing, philosophy and theology.
University of South Alabama
The University of South Alabama enrolls approximately 15,007, as of February 2011. Its medical center treats around 250,000 patients annually, and the school employs approximately 5,200 employees. This university contains the Mitchell College of Business, a pharmacy program with Auburn University, arts and sciences, education and engineering programs, among others. University of South Alabama provides the "area's only neonatal intensive care unit, only Level I trauma center, and the Mitchell Cancer Institute," according to the university's website. USA began its football and marching band programs in September 2009. The University of South Alabama first started classes in June 1964.
Remington College
Remington College offers diplomas in medical assisting, dental assisting and pharmacy technician, among other categories. Associate's degree possibilities include criminal justice, business office management and international business, while bachelor's degree options include organizational management, criminal justice and bachelor of arts in human resources, general business and marketing. The Mobile campus is the only Remington College in the state of Alabama. Remington College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Tuition to Remington College depends on the course of study.
