In North Carolina, unemployment insurance is handled by the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina. The department provides some citizens of the Tar Heel State who have recently lost their job with temporary monetary relief ranging from $41 to $476 per week.
Instructions

1. Have become unemployed through no fault of your own
2. Register with the Employment Security Commission in order to expedite the job search process.
3. Have worked during two of the first four out of the last five calendar quarters.
4. Try to find work while on unemployment.
2. Visit the official website of the ESC to file a claim online. You may do so from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, and from noon to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
3. There are two other options for applying for unemployment in North Carolina: over the phone and in person. The phone number for filing is 1-877-841-9617.
Or visit a Employment Security Commission of North Carolina office. Find a link to a locator map in the References section.
4. Have the following information handy to save time on the application: your Social Security number, dates of employment, and wage information for your previous employers. Also, find out the registration numbers for past employers (these registration numbers should be available on the W-2 forms).
5. After your request has been approved, you will have to complete a weekly certification to verify you have been completing the mandatory job searches and have not made any income in that week. Certification ensures that you are paid your unemployment benefits for that period of time.
You can complete your weekly certification online using the login information you initially set up with your account. Or you can certify by phone.
The number to call is 1-888-372-3453. People with odd-numbered Social Security Numbers are supposed to call on Monday or on any day Wednesday through Saturday. People with even-numbered SSNs are supposed to call on any day Tuesday through Saturday.
