Are Breast Enhancement Pills Safe

Are Breast Enhancement Pills Safe?

Many women are unhappy with the size of their breasts. In today's society where beauty is honored so strongly, this discontent causes many women to look for a way to make their breasts bigger. Many may consider breast enhancement pills. However, there is serious concern about whether or not these products are safe, and women considering taking them need to be aware of this.

Function

Breast enhancement pills contain herbal ingredients that possibly create an estrogen-like effect on the body. This means that they could, in theory, lead to an increase in breast size. Women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts often consider this option in lieu of surgery, because it is much more affordable, and in their minds, safer. There is, however, a measure of risk associated with breast enlargement pills, which many consumers know nothing about.

Features

Each different type of breast enhancement pill has a unique herbal formulation, but almost all of them are made of natural, herbal ingredients. Common herbs used in breast enlargement pills are hops, blessed thistle, dong quai, saw palmetto, wild yam, fennel seed, fenugreek, bovine ovary extract and pueraria mirifica. Some of these ingredients, including fenugreek and fennel, were used in ancient times as supposed breast enlargers. Others are recent additions to the breast enlargement pill.

Effects

Breast enhancement pills claim to work by causing the same hormonal changes that occur during puberty. These hormonal changes trigger the body to lay down fat deposits in the breast area, and not in other areas of the body. If the pills truly caused this hormonal change, they would work. However, there is little scientific evidence to pinpoint whether or not they actually cause the change in hormones that they claim to cause. Also, there is no evidence as to whether or not any effects of the pills are permanent.

Considerations

Because breast enhancement pills are herbal products, they are not monitored by the agencies that monitor prescription medications. This means that there are far fewer safety studies done on these products. Long-term studies into the potential dangers of taking these supplements have not been done. Also, some women may be allergic to one or more of the ingredients in the products, and since these ingredients are often not found in everyday foods, a woman could take one of these pills without knowing of a potential allergy.

Warning

So are breast enlargement pills safe? If they work as advertised, there is a good chance they are not. If the pills have an estrogen-like effect on the body, there are many potential dangers to taking them. Estrogen is believed to be a potential cause uterine cancer. Also, there is a possibility that the pills could interfere with menstruation, fertility, and certain hormonal birth control methods. None of these dangers have been proven, but they have not been disproven either, which causes most doctors to discourage the use of herbal breast enhancement pills.
